Pulsatile Cadavers: How it Works

By |2025-11-10T11:11:29-06:00December 9, 2021|Course Information, Pulsative Cadavers|

While there are certain medical procedures we can use patients for, in order to gain experience and to train different methods, there are many scenarios where it simply wouldn’t be appropriate. This is especially the case in Maverick Medical Education courses where repetition, when administering anesthesia and performing nerve blocks, is key to proficiency. It simply wouldn’t be safe for a patient to undergo. For this reason, our training courses use pulsatile cadavers.

There is a growing amount of research that shows regional anesthesia can have a positive impact on, not only care for cancer treatment patients, but on survival rates as well.

How to Effectively Triage with POCUS

By |2022-08-30T18:53:18-05:00December 6, 2021|Course Information, Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS)|

The use of point of care ultrasound in many medical settings is becoming clearer to practitioners and patients every day. While Maverick Medical Education has addressed the utility of POCUS on COVID-19 triage, the benefits extend far beyond helping teams determine care for those who have contracted this virus. POCUS can be used to improve patient outcomes and triage for their care no matter what they suspect their illness or injury may be.

Focus on POCUS

By |2025-11-13T05:56:45-06:00December 3, 2021|Course Information, Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS)|

In 2014 I was involved with a task force put together by the NBCRNA to look at simulation for education for CRNAs. In the course of events associated with this task force we attended the 3rd World Congress for Ultrasound in Medical Education in Portland Oregon. I had experience using Ultrasound for regional nerve blocks and have taught Ultrasound use for that purpose through Maverick Medical Education.

There had to have been countless times when doctors and those involved in medicine in ancient times would say, “If only I could look inside my patient and see what was going on!” We live in a time when seeing inside our patients is not just possible, but becoming more common, especially with the assistance of Point of Care Ultrasound.

Through trial and error, we have chosen several companies to partner with, knowing these groups will help us and our students be more successful in managing pain and helping their patients, wherever they may practice.

By |2025-11-10T12:36:52-06:00October 13, 2021|Course Information, Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS)|

Point of Care Ultrasound is becoming more commonly used throughout the medical field and even beyond the four walls of the hospital and professional buildings where doctors, nurses, and technicians do a majority of their work. One of the many promising ways POCUS is being used, by our Maverick Medical Education trainees and medical professionals across the country, is the use in identifying and working through cardiac issues with our patients.

Identifying Knee Dislocation with POCUS

By |2025-11-13T06:00:41-06:00September 15, 2021|Course Information, Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS)|

As Point of Care Ultrasound becomes more widely used, those who have been trained in using this technology, also referred to as POCUS, will be better able to diagnose and treat their patients. While many think of ultrasound only in the realm of obstetrics, POCUS can give great insight into what is taking place within a patient’s body, in real time, without transport and can give an ongoing view as different techniques or treatments are tried. One of the ways Maverick Medical Education uses POCUS with medical professionals is in the identification of knee dislocation.
