Maverick Medical Education was formed with many goals in mind, but one of those goals, which is always in the forefront of our minds, is how to help educate medical professionals around the country in ways that will reduce the number of times opioid prescriptions are given. One of the best ways we can support medical professionals in this attempt is to give multiple resources, techniques, and methods to help prevent and manage pain in their patients.
One of the many advantages of doing continuing education and additional training with Maverick Medical Education is our flipped classroom model. Once you sign up for a course, your content learning is available at your fingertips for you to work through at a time that is most convenient for you. We find this is especially helpful for our medical community who often works odd hours and even odder shifts and need that mobility for learning. Once you have primed your brain with the content the course requires, we practice techniques face-to-face, giving you the guidance and repetition, you need for proficiency. Maverick Medical Education knows that pain is a large part of people’s lives. Whether chronic pain that people figure they simply have to live with, ongoing injuries that are never correctly addressed, or surgical procedures that are trying to help the patient and lead to pain during recovery, pain is a frequent part of many people’s conversations. We know there are alternatives to pain treatment out there, but not all are the best choice.

Combined with our flipped classroom model, with content available immediately upon registration through online modules and hands-on practice during our lab time together, Maverick Medical Education provides quality instruction and support for each of our students.
With a number of courses, ranging from pain management to point of care ultrasound, our Maverick Medical Education team gets questions about the skills and techniques our students will walk away with. In addition to the knowledge we give in each of our courses, we provide students with the opportunity for hands-on training and in person guidance from our skilled Maverick Instructors. Our Regional Anesthesia Essentials and Advanced courses train on a number of nerve blocks to provide experience in providing pain relief.
One may expect to hear agreement that the use of opioids is bad, but the reasoning behind that may not be as well understood. Opioids, even when used on a short term, can have a number of negative side effects that aren’t talked about enough. POCUS can help significantly with identifying and treating a fairly common clinical presentation, shoulder dislocation.
From immediate physical issues that come with opioid use to long term changes from addiction to these pain-relieving medications, opioids can lead to more problems than any patient would like to deal with. When alternatives are available, like regional anesthesia, patients can get the pain relief they need without the negative effects and can heal and recover efficiently and safely.
