Maverick Medical Education sent two of our lead instructors, Greg Gill, DNAP, CRNA, CNE, and Matt Bowden, MSN, CRNA, to represent Maverick and lead POCUS workshops at the 2026 Illinois Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (IANA) Fall Conference, held Saturday, October 10, at the SIU-Edwardsville Health Sciences Building in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Hands-On POCUS Workshops for CRNAs
Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) continues to transform modern anesthesia care, equipping CRNAs with immediate diagnostic clarity at the bedside. Bringing Maverick’s signature hands-on, high-impact clinical training to the regional stage, Greg and Matt presented expert-led lectures to ~200 people and facilitated practical sessions focused on two core POCUS applications:
- POCUS and the Difficult Airway: Techniques for Cricothyroid Membrane Identification – A practical guide to using ultrasound for rapid, precise identification of critical airway structures during difficult airway situations.
- Gastric Ultrasound – A session covering bedside evaluation of gastric volume and content to refine aspiration risk assessment and clinical decision-making.
Following their presentations, Greg and Matt led interactive, small-group scanning labs held throughout the afternoon, providing attendees with hands-on practice and direct feedback.
