It has been said by a number of sources that ultrasound is the new stethoscope and our team at Maverick Medical Education couldn’t agree more. Ultrasound, specifically Point of Care Ultrasound, or POCUS, has many vital applications in all medical fields, especially in emergency room care. Maverick Medical Education stands behind this concept so firmly, we have developed a new course, ERstravaganza, to instruct ER Physicians, PAs, and NPs in how to better meet the needs of their patients and departments with ultrasound.
Ultrasound for Assessment
Ultrasound can be used in a number of ways, from assessing cardiac function to identifying trauma to ongoing observation of a patient’s condition. The ERstravaganza course will specifically go over the basics of ultrasound before diving deeper into a few common ways ultrasound is used in the ER. Ultrasound can quickly and nimbly be used to assess the condition of the heart, pulmonary function, any gastric concerns a patient may be having, as well as the eFAST technique. Critical care relies heavily on eFAST to look for the presence of fluid in a number of locations of the body after trauma or when other symptoms point to this being the case.
Ultrasound for Pain
When patients come to the emergency room, they are frequently in some sort of pain, or they may need a procedure that could increase or cause pain. Ultrasound guided nerve blocks are an efficient way to relieve pain without the harmful side effects of opioid relief. By learning a few basic nerve blocks in our course, you will be better equipped to provide the best care for your patients, whether you are administering a femoral nerve block or a supraclavicular nerve block. When patients have this opportunity for pain relief, you will be better able to treat them and help them with the best possible diagnosis.
Our Ultrasound Courses
Each of our courses uses a unique flipped classroom model that has proven to have a number of benefits for our students. As soon as you register, course material will be provided to you through online modules, accessible from any internet connected device. By developing these mobile friendly modules, we adapt learning to your schedule, allowing you to work in the time you have available before your course. Once your course is scheduled to meet in person, you will be front loaded with all the content you need, allowing our time in person to be saturated with hands on learning and practice to develop the techniques you are looking to master. Repetition will be key to your proficiency, and our Maverick instructors will help you fine tune every skill until you are ready to accomplish your goals in your practice and in your community.
Maverick Medical Education is committed to meeting the needs for medical providers everywhere in terms of POCUS, pain relief, and pain management techniques.
